Villa or condo: which to rent in Phuket?

For a comfortable long stay in Phuket the usual choice is between a villa and a condo. A villa is a standalone house, typically with its own yard and often a private pool: maximum space and privacy. A condo is a unit in a managed complex with a shared pool, security and upkeep: less privacy, but cheaper and with no household chores. The choice depends on your group, budget and how much seclusion matters.

Villa: space, privacy, your own pool

A villa gives what an apartment cannot: a private entrance, a yard, several bedrooms and often a private pool you never share. It is ideal for a family or a group of friends, and for remote workers who value quiet. In return you pay more and take on more chores: grounds cleaning, pool and garden upkeep usually fall to the tenant or are billed separately. Villas tend to sit further from the centre, so having your own vehicle helps.

Condo: service, security, fewer chores

A condo takes the chores off your plate: pool, gym, security and shared-area cleaning come with the complex. Units are often furnished and well located near beaches. It is cheaper than a villa and convenient for a couple or solo traveller. The downsides are less privacy (shared pool and corridors), building-rule limits and sometimes a higher electricity tariff.
