TAT and Tripadvisor sign a Letter of Intent to share traveller insights ahead of Thailand's 2027 tourism push

The agreement covers joint promotion, data exchange on traveller behaviour and new digital ways to raise the visibility of Thai destinations and businesses.

On 14 October 2026 in Bangkok, the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) and Tripadvisor signed a Letter of Intent (LOI). It is a framework agreement, not a finished product, and it sits inside TAT's "Transform Together" move under "The Year of Transformation", the tourism direction the authority has set for 2027.

Ms. Parichat Boonclai, TAT Deputy Governor for Marketing Communications, signed for TAT. Mr. Scott Wegener, Director, Enterprise Sales, Asia Pacific at Tripadvisor, signed for the platform. TAT Governor Ms. Thapanee Kiatphaibool witnessed the signing, together with other executives from both sides.

The LOI outlines three areas of cooperation. The two organisations would jointly promote Thailand's tourism image and TAT campaigns. They would exchange data and insights on how travellers behave and which trends are emerging. And they would explore digital opportunities to raise the international visibility of Thai destinations, experiences and tourism businesses.

The goal behind it is stated plainly: to position Thailand as "Asia's No.1 High-Value & Meaningful Destination". TAT frames this around the concept "Healing is the New Luxury", which draws on wellness, culture, gastronomy, nature, local wisdom and Thai hospitality. According to TAT, the deal also reflects its own shift from Tourism Promoter to Tourism Ecosystem Orchestrator, a role that links travellers, destinations, communities, businesses, technology and global partners.

In her statement, Governor Thapanee described "Transform Together" as the way TAT will turn ambition into action, bringing partners, insights and capabilities into one ecosystem. The traveller insights from the cooperation are meant to help TAT see what motivates visitors and which markets have the most potential.

For a tourist, the practical meaning is simple. Most trips to Thailand are now planned on a phone, through reviews, listings and booking platforms. When the national tourism body and a large review platform compare notes on what travellers look for, the likely result is better matching between visitors and the places, activities and local businesses that suit them.

That matching does not stop at the hotel or the tour. Visitors who want to go beyond the main hubs need a way to get around, and transport is one of the places where clear information helps the most. This is where Balm Rentals fits into the picture. It is a marketplace for renting bikes, scooters and cars in Thailand, built to complement local rental owners and the wider efforts of the industry rather than replace them.

Through Balm, a traveller sees the price, deposit and rental terms before paying, reads them in their own language, and rents from verified, legal owners in one place, in the iOS and Android apps or on the web. The idea is the same one TAT is pursuing at a larger scale: a visit that is easier to plan and easier to trust.

If you are putting together a trip for the coming season, it is worth checking how far each stop is from the next and how you will get there before you book. Knowing the transport side early leaves more room for the experiences the new campaigns are promoting.
